Camps (Recreation and Work)

Public Health is mandated to inspect both recreational camps and camps in unorganized territory. Public health inspectors actively inspect these camps and enforce requirements to prevent injuries and the transmission of disease.

It is the responsibility of the operator to comply with all requirements for recreational camps (e-Laws Ontario) and requirements for camps in unorganized territory (e-Laws Ontario).

Notification requirements

Before opening a camp, you must send a written notice to Public Health 14 days before the camp is to be opened.

Noticfication forms

• Notice of intent to open or operate a camp in unorganized territory
• Notice of intent to open or operate a summer recreational camp
• Notice of intent to open or operate a summer recreational camp (for renters of an existing camp)

Camps in unorganized territory

• As an operator, you must notify Public Health immediately of an outbreak or suspected outbreak of a reportable disease in the camp or any abnormal number of illnesses.
• A detailed site plan for all Class 2 sewage systems must also be submitted with the camp notification application.
• When the camp is closed, the operator will ensure that the site is left in a sanitary condition and will also notify the public health inspector that the camp is closed.
