2021 Population Public Health Sudbury & Districts
The table below reflects information from the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada to provide a snapshot of Canada’s population. The census is conducted every five years in Canada.
Public Health Sudbury & Districts service area consists of three Census Divisions: Greater Sudbury, Manitoulin District, and Sudbury District.
Land area and population for 2016 and 2021 by Census Subdivisions within each of the three Census Divisions in the Public Health Sudbury & Districts service area are presented below.

The Demographic Profile: Short-form Census highlights information from the mandatory 2021 Census. The following are some of the highlights from the report.
- Public Health Sudbury & Districts covers a service area of 46 167 square kilometers, with a population of 202 431.
Public Health’s service area is made up of three census divisions:
- Sudbury District has a land area of 39 837 square kilometers and a population of 22 368.
- Greater Sudbury has a land area of 3197 square kilometers and a population of 166 128.
- Manitoulin District has a land area of 3074 square kilometers and a population of 13 935.
The following is the breakdown of population by age group and sex in the Public Health Sudbury & District service area:
Males
- 0 to 14 age group: 14 995 (15%)
- 15 to 64 age group: 64 270 (63%)
- 65 and over age group: 23 205 (23%)
Females
- 0 to 14 age group, 15 890 (16%)
- 15 to 64 age group, 64 015 (64%)
- 65 and over age group: 20 055 (20%)
Did you know?
- A higher proportion of individuals identified French as their first official language spoken in Sudbury and districts (27.6%) compared to the rest of the province (3.4%).
- Almost half (48.6%) of our population over the age of 15 across Sudbury and districts were legally married in 2021.
- Since 2016, our total population has grown by 3.1% (Greater Sudbury 3.6%, Sudbury District 5.5% and Manitoulin District 6.8%).
- Since 2016, our population has gotten older (0 to 14 age group increased by 2.5%, 15 to 64 age group decreased by 0.3%, 65 and older age group increased by 15.1%).
- Among married couples in Sudbury and districts, 30.0% had children.
