Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reminding parents and guardians to ensure their children are caught up on immunizations and their records with Public Health are up to date. In support of parents’ and guardians’ efforts, Public Health is continuing to apply the Immunization School Pupils Act (ISPA), ensuring all students from junior kindergarten to grade eight are protected against diseases such as measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis (whooping cough), and many others. Over the next several weeks, Public Health will be mailing notification letters to all elementary students whose immunization records need to be updated with Public Health. Keep reading

nfectious syphilis cases have been on a rise across Canada according to data published by the Public Health Agency of Canada. Currently, Public Health Sudbury & Districts is seeing a concerning increase of syphilis cases within its service area. In all of 2022, a total of 31 confirmed cases were reported, with 23 cases already been reported to date in 2023. Public Health is encouraging awareness, practising safer sex, and following up with your health care provider and getting tested if you are at risk. Keep reading
Public Health Sudbury & Districts is setting its COVID-19 Risk Index & Respiratory Activity Report to “inactive” status this week. Public Health continually assesses local risk based on the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic and the advancement of scientific understanding. Major factors in the decision to set the risk index tool to “inactive” at this time include declining trends in respiratory illness, increased population immunity from vaccination or infection, reduced severity of illness, and the improved capacity to manage new waves or surges in COVID-19 or other respiratory viruses.
