Background
Tobacco use costs Ontario an estimated $4.18 billion in health care costs, lost productivity, criminal justice, and other costs each year. With the changing face of nicotine appealing to youth and causing addiction earlier, the role of primary care is more important than ever.
Learning objectives for this session:
- Describe current trends in nicotine use (vaping and smoking) among youth and adults.
- Use opportunistic approaches for screening and assessment among patients who vape and smoke nicotine, especially youth and young adults.
- Identify potential nicotine cessation interventions for use in primary care.
