Annual child care immunization record review begins

Public Health has begun reviewing immunization records for children in licensed child care settings. Under the Child Care and Early Years Act, children currently attending licensed child care must be vaccinated against certain diseases, unless they have a valid exemption. Health care providers may see an increase in vaccination appointments.

When a family brings a notification letter

1. Review immunization records. Check the child’s vaccination history. If all required vaccines listed in the Public Health notice are up to date, proceed to step 3.
2. Administer missing vaccines. Provide any outstanding vaccines.
3. Update records. Remind parents and guardians to report updated immunization information to Public Health.

In some cases, a child may be exempt from immunization requirements due to medical or non-medical reasons. For medical exemptions, the Statement of Medical Exemption form must be completed by a doctor or nurse practitioner and submitted to Public Health.
