The NE TCAN supports the Smoke-Free Ontario Strategy (SFOS). The SFOS is a multi-level comprehensive tobacco control strategy which aims to eliminate tobacco related illness and death; by preventing experimentation and use among youth and young adults, increasing and supporting cessation/quit attempts and protecting the health of people.

Tobacco Control Area Networks facilitate coordination at the local and regional levels, ensure the needs of public health units across the province are met and maximize the effective use of resources.

The NE TCAN is comprised of 4 public health units: Algoma Public Health, North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit, Northeastern Public Health, and the coordinating public health unit, Public Health Sudbury & Districts.
