Public Health, school boards, and families work together to keep student immunization coverage between 93 and 96%
Public Health Sudbury & Districts, in collaboration with local school boards, has completed the annual review of student immunization records under Ontario’s Immunization of School Pupils Act. After completing follow-up with those with out-of-date immunizations, students across local schools have high immunization coverage. This reflects a strong shared commitment and partnership among families, schools, and Public Health to support student health and well‑being.
Keeping childhood immunizations up to date stops the spread of illness in schools, prevents outbreaks, and minimizes disruptions to learning and daily life.
More than 28 000 elementary and secondary students who attend school in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts were included in this year’s review. Beginning in December 2025, Public Health notified families whose immunization records required updating. Parents and guardians played a central role in reviewing their child’s records, responding to notices, and arranging immunizations as needed. Schools shared reminders and helped connect families with Public Health.

Public Health clinics administered more than 2 400 vaccines to over 1 600 students. Primary care providers across the service area reviewed records and vaccinated thousands more students. In addition, many conversations occurred with families to discuss the benefits and side effects of vaccination. With quality information from trusted health professionals, barely more than 4% of parents opted not to vaccinate, despite being surrounded by unprecedented misinformation that is fueling vaccine hesitancy.
