Public Health Sudbury & Districts is part of a provincial network of non-profit public health agencies (Ministry of Health), funded jointly by local and provincial governments. Ontario’s public health system is comprised of these health units (public health agencies), the Public Health Branch of the Ministry of Health, public health laboratories, and primary health care providers.
We have several reporting, accountability, and performance responsibilities related to the work we do, how we do it, and the results we achieve. This section includes information about our organizational policies, accountability practices, service standards, and public reporting responsibilities.

Accountability monitoring
We use a variety of monitoring tools and communication methods to track and report on our ability to fulfill priorities set out in our strategic plan, our requirements under the Foundational and Program Standards within the Ontario Public Health Standards, and our commitments to Organizational Requirements.

Our accountability monitoring reports demonstrate how we have achieved provincial mandates and local commitments.
Plan
Our Accountability Monitoring Plan 2024–2028 explains how we will comply with legal, funding, and program requirements. It also contributes to the Board of Health’s commitment to transparency. The plan has three categories that demonstrate our accountability for provincial mandates and local commitments.
Organizational Requirements
We monitor or report on the four domains of accountability listed in the Ontario Public Health Standards.
- delivery of programs and services
- fiduciary requirements
- good governance and management practices
- public health practice
We also monitor other requirements within the Ontario Public Health Standards that are common to all four domains, and our reports to the Ministry of Health for organizational requirements include attestations to demonstrate our compliance.
Foundational and Program Standards
We monitor progress and measure success with provincial and locally developed reporting mechanisms related to the Foundational Standards and Program Standards within the Ontario Public Health Standards. We report on Ministry of Health program indicators and compliance attestations for program activities, outcomes, and contributions to population health. We also monitor (and report on as needed) local indicators to make sure program plans achieve their goals and ensure that we meet Ministry of Health planning requirements.
2024–2028 Strategic Plan
We measure our performance and progress based on our strategic plan, which defines our vision, mission, values, and strategic priorities. Our reports include performance measures for each priority, along with narratives and reports that highlight how our plan is being implemented.
