How to respond to poisonings<\/h2>\n

• Call 911.<\/strong> Stay with the person. Monitor their breathing until help arrives.<\/li>\n
• GIVE NALOXONE.<\/strong> It won\u2019t cause harm if opioids aren\u2019t involved. The person may not wake up right away due to sedation. More doses may be needed.<\/li>\n
• If the person is unconscious, place them in the recovery position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

  How to recognize poisonings<\/h2>\n

  Different substances affect the body in different ways. Depending on the type of substance consumed, symptoms of a poisoning may look different.<\/p>\n

  Opioid poisoning symptoms:<\/h3>\n

  \n
  • bluish, purple, or greyish skin, lips, or nails (depending on skin tone)<\/li>\n
  • dizziness, confusion, or inability to stay awake<\/li>\n
  • choking, gurgling, or snoring sounds<\/li>\n
  • slow, weak, or no breathing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Benzodiazepines (benzos) toxicity poisoning symptoms:<\/h3>\n

    A poisoning due to benzodiazepines (benzos) toxicity may last for hours and look like:<\/p>\n

    • extreme sleepiness or passing out<\/li>\n
    • poor balance or movement control<\/li>\n
    • slurred speech<\/li>\n
    • blackouts and memory loss<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
